In 2025, Brown Dog Cancer Charity are once again partnering with Leicester Hospital’s Charity to raise £30,000, to purchase a Sentinel Lymph Biopsy Probe for the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Head and Neck Cancer Unit.

Brown Dog raise money to purchase equipment or infrastructure to improve the detection or treatment of cancer (and improve patient care) to subsequently save or extend life.

For Brown Dog’s 25th Anniversary Challenge, the charity will be holding  a Leicestershire based walk on 7 June 2025.

The walk will support to raise a total of £30,000, to fund a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) probe for the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The SLNB is a handheld probe which helps to identify the first lymph node (or nodes) that cancer cells are likely to spread to. Having access to the probe will allow for targeted treatment that can help to prevent the spread of cancer while minimizing other treatments and their associated side effects.

Currently, many patients who have needed to under-go use of the probe have had to travel to Nottingham for their treatment. Funding this SNLB probe will allow us to bring care closer to home for patients, and enable The Leicester Royal Infirmary to deliver faster and more timely care. Further helping to reduce waiting times, and improve the accuracy of cancer decisions leading to better clinical outcomes.
