Right now on the Children’s Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Mums and Dads are sat by their child’s bedside, day in, day out, whilst their little one receives critical, life-saving care. 

Parents know their child is in the best place, cared for by the very best people. But too many parents face long, exhausting days and nights with nowhere suitable to rest. With just three bedrooms available for up to seven families that must be vacated early each morning, many parents have no other choice but to sleep in waiting rooms, play areas or on uncomfortable chairs — tired, anxious, and without anywhere to find privacy and securely store their belongings. 

Together, we can change this.

Over the next two years, the Charity is hoping to raise over £1.2m towards refurbishing overnight parent bedrooms, creating a new parent lounge complete with kitchenette facilities, and enhancing privacy and comfort for families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

With your help, we have already raised over £600,000 towards this target. The improvements will help ensure parents can remain close to their child’s bedside with dignity, reassurance and the opportunity to rest. 

We hope to raise enough to start phase 1 of the project in 2026, providing immediate benefit for parents and families.
